Okay, leadership Principle 1: God chooses leaders for His Kingdom --men do not. That was last week.
This Week is leadership Principle 2: God breaks the leaders He calls.
Any thoughts?

...it would be nice if He chose NOT to crush those that were never going to be leaders. You can only get so much oil out of an olive. Just my single sided opinion anyway.
1. God is good. He causes us no unnecessary pain. Furthermore, He really does see to it that we are not harmed in what He does. He has our good in mind. Not everyone has to go through life-dominating crisis.
2. The Bible is clear in Hebrews 12, "God scourges every son He receives." Jesus said, if you would follow after me, you must take up your cross. If you would hold onto your life, you will lose it. That means that every Christian is to die to self and the flesh and expect some sort of "scourging" from the Lord. To say,"I'm not big deal. Maybe God could realize how tiny I am and leave me alone. I'm not that important in the big scheme of things" (the Uriah Heap defense?) is to not understand grace. no one is valuable in his flesh, but all have value in the hands of God. Indeed, the one who is least is used most. So Andy, don't be afraid. Let go of the fear of pain. don't cling to comfort or happiness in this life. Run to Jesus and take what He gives. You're in good hands.
Tozer says about the same thing....Something like God cannot use a man above measure until He has crushed him beyond measure. That's probably not the exact wording, but pretty close....

Andy,
two good words to your comment.
