A Hit Piece

How do you know you are doing what God wants? One of the ways is that you are opposed by the world. A man of God who takes godly stands will be accused of being "narrow-minded" or "bigoted" by the enemies of God. Below is excerpts from an article from the New York Times.

I mentioned Peter
Akinola, the Arch Bishop of the Anglican Church in Nigeria, in an earlier post. He is leading a revolt against the Episcopal (Anglican) church in America for it's embracing of homosexuality as a normal way of life. He has gotten the attention of the NYTimes and they are going to do their best to make a villain of him. Here are some highlights:

At Axis of Episcopal Split, an Anti-Gay Nigerian

ABUJA, Nigeria, Dec. 20 — The way he tells the story, the first and only time Archbishop Peter J. Akinola knowingly shook a gay person's hand, he sprang backward the moment he realized what he had done.

Archbishop Akinola, the conservative leader of Nigeria's Anglican Church who has emerged at the center of a schism over homosexuality in the global Anglican Communion, re-enacted the scene from behind his desk Tuesday, shaking his head in wonder and horror.

"This man came up to me after a service, in New York I think, and said, 'Oh, good to see you bishop, this is my partner of many years,' " he recalled. "I said, 'Oh!' I jumped back."

Archbishop Akinola, a man whose international reputation has largely been built on his tough stance against homosexuality, has become the spiritual head of 21 conservative churches in the United States. They opted to leave the Episcopal Church over its decision to consecrate an openly gay bishop and allow churches to bless same-sex unions. Among the eight Virginia churches to announce they had joined the archbishop's fold last week are The Falls Church and Truro Church, two large, historic and wealthy parishes.

. . . . .

"He sees himself as the spokesperson for a new Anglicanism, and thus is a direct challenge to the historic authority of the Archbishop of Canterbury," said the Rev. Dr. Ian T. Douglas of the Episcopal Divinity School in Cambridge, Mass.

.. . . He has also become the most visible advocate for a literal interpretation of Scripture, challenging the traditional Anglican approach of embracing diverse theological viewpoints.

"Why didn't God make a lion to be a man's companion?" Archbishop Akinola said at his office here in Abuja. "Why didn't he make a tree to be a man's companion? Or better still, why didn't he make another man to be man's companion? So even from the creation story, you can see that the mind of God, God's intention, is for man and woman to be together."

Archbishop Akinola's views on homosexuality — that it is an abomination akin to bestiality and pedophilia — are fairly mainstream here. Nigeria is a deeply religious country, . . .

... Bishop Martyn Minns, the rector of Truro Church in Fairfax, Va., who was consecrated by Archbishop Akinola this year to serve as his missionary bishop in North America, said Archbishop Akinola was motivated by a conviction that the Anglican Communion must change its colonial-era leadership structure and mentality.

"He doesn't want to be the man; he just no longer wants to be the boy," Bishop Minns said. "He wants to be treated as an equal leader, with equal respect."

Even among Anglican conservatives, Archbishop Akinola is not universally beloved. . . . Some bishops in southern Africa have also challenged his fixation with homosexuality, when AIDS and poverty are a crisis for the continent.

He has been chastised more recently for creating a missionary branch of the Nigerian church in the United States, called the Convocation of Anglicans in North America, despite Anglican rules and traditions prohibiting bishops from taking control of churches or priests not in their territory.

"There are primates who are very, very concerned about it," said Archbishop Drexel Gomez, the primate of the West Indies, because "it introduces more fragmentation."

. . . One of Archbishop Akinola's principal arguments, often heard from other conservatives as well, is that Christianity in Nigeria, a country where religious violence has killed tens of thousands in the past decade, must guard its flank lest Islam overtake it. "The church is in the midst of Islam," he said. "Should the church in this country begin to teach that it is appropriate, that it is right to have same sex unions and all that, the church will simply die."

He supports a bill in Nigeria's legislature that would make homosexual sex and any public expression of homosexual identity a crime punishable by five years in prison.

. . . "It could target just about anyone, based on any form of perception from anybody."

. . . Though he insisted that he was not seeking power or influence, he is clearly relishing the curious role reversal of African archbishops sending missionaries to a Western society he sees as increasingly godless. . . .

. . . Asked whether his installing a bishop in the United States violated the church's longstanding rules, he responded heatedly that he was simply doing what Western churches had done for centuries, sending a bishop to serve Anglicans where there is no church to provide one.

. . . Anyone who criticizes him as power-seeking is simply trying to undermine his message, he said. "The more they demonize, the stronger the works of God," he said.

Human Rights?

Saddam Hussein is dead. We all know that. What I want to know is what is going on in this picture? I pulled it from Foxnews.com. The caption said this is a human rights group in Pakistan having a protest of the execution of Saddam.

Here are my questions:

1. Why protest the U.S. when it is the Iraqis who executed their ex-president?

2. Why, if this is a "human rights" group, is someone holding up a sign that reads: "Saddam, Hero of Islam?" What does that say about human rights?

3. Why is Saddam a hero to Islam? He was a secularist? Furthermore, if he is Islam's hero, then what good is Islam?

4. Why are we supposed to care what these protesters think? In my opinion, they should care what we think. And, you know what I think about the execution of Saddam? The blood of a million victims was crying out for justice. It has been done. God is good.

Dems and Terrorists Working Together

Yes, according to Al Zawahiri (you can call him "Al") he helped the Dems win back the House and Senate and has therefore earned the right to negotiate directly with his comrades, the Democrats. Here is part of the tape he sent out recently:

"The first is that you aren't the ones who won the midterm elections, nor are the Republicans the ones who lost. Rather, the Mujahideen -- the Muslim Ummah's vanguard in Afghanistan and Iraq -- are the ones who won, and the American forces and their Crusader allies are the ones who lost," Zawahri said, according to a full transcript obtained by ABC News.

I knew it!!! The Democratic Party is the New Taliban!

Billions of Light Years in One Picture

This is a photo taken by the Hubble telescope (I think). In any case it is a picture of space of a tremendous distance. This is a view of galaxies. How small are we? is the question that comes to mind. Even better, How big is God? Thoughts?

Are You Mentally Ill?

ISLAMAPHOBIA!!! It's a new word. Apparently, you will be hearing it a lot. Why? Perhaps because the word "homophobia" worked so well in labeling people who believe gay sex is sin.
Do you have an irrational fear of Islam? A phobia is an extreme fear, not based on reason. There is a representative from Virginia who has recently been labeled "Islamaphobic" because of something he wrote. I'm going to print it below. But first, let me go on record as saying that I am not afraid of Islam, however, fear that Islam might harm the world is not irrational. Indeed, if Islam is such a safe religion, why is every nation that has a majority of adherents to Islam a terrorist producing nation? Islam is unsafe for the world. I'm not afraid of them, though. Here's the text of the letter I mentioned above:
This letter was sent to hundreds of constituents by the office of Republican Rep. Virgil Goode Jr. of Virginia:
Thank you for your recent communication. When I raise my hand to take the oath on Swearing In Day, I will have the Bible in my other hand. I do not subscribe to using the Koran in any way. The Muslim Representative from Minnesota was elected by the voters of that district and if American citizens don't wake up and adopt the Virgil Goode position on immigration there will likely be many more Muslims elected to office and demanding the use of the Koran. We need to stop illegal immigration totally and reduce legal immigration and end the diversity visas policy pushed hard by President Clinton and allowing many persons from the Middle East to come to this country. I fear that in the next century we will have many more Muslims in the United States if we do not adopt the strict immigration policies that I believe are necessary to preserve the values and beliefs traditional to the United States of America and to prevent our resources from being swamped.
The Ten Commandments and "In God We Trust" are on the wall in my office. A Muslim student came by the office and asked why I did not have anything on my wall about the Koran. My response was clear, "As long as I have the honor of representing the citizens of the 5th District of Virginia in the United States House of Representatives, The Koran is not going to be on the wall of my office." Thank you again for your email and thoughts.
Sincerely yours,
Virgil H. Goode, Jr.

Ever Heard of This?

The DAILY AUDIO BIBLE had over 2.5 millions podcasts this year. I have never heard of it before today, nor have I ever downloaded it.
Then why am I mentioning it? Because it is more proof of what I am convinced is a the beginning of a world-wide revival that God is using the internet to drive. When the printing press hit the human race, the world changed forever. The ability to distribute printed information in mass quantities (by standards of the 15th and 16th centuries) changed our world, giving the fuel to the Reformation and the Enlightenment.
Today, we have made the printing press look like a kid drawing pictures in the sand when we compare it to the amount of information the internet gives us access to, and the amount of reach in communicating given to anyone in the world with a computer.
So, the Daily Audio Bible is just one more piece of evidence.
Here's a quote from the founder of this ministry that I ripped from his website: “When I started reading the Bible on January 1, I had no idea what I was going to encounter,” says music producer Brian Hardin. “Daily exposure to the Scriptures has changed the way I do everything and I’ve received thousands of emails from every corner of the globe reflecting this same change worldwide. The community has grown to be a real life example of growing from nothing to a thriving family who is literally modelling the Christian lifestyle in a virtual way."
The world we live in is changing faster than the world anyone else has lived in. It is exciting. Be a part of it. God is going to save millions!
(by the way, I am not endorsing this website or this ministry --I really know very little about it. And, for credit sake, I also ripped the picture from the Daily Audio Bible Website).

Why Does Hollywood Protect Terrorists

Okay, so last night I see this movie called "Blood Diamonds." The entire point of the movie is that European Diamond merchants are financing the civil war in Sierra Leone so that they can buy illegal diamonds to sell to unsuspecting but self-indulgent Americans and Englishmen.
Who are the bad guys? Of course it is the diamond industry and ignorant Western consumers.
Why isn't all the blame posited to RUF (the rebels who really do the killing)? I don't know.
But anyway, I searched the web today and found this story from 2003 that points out that it is Hezbollah and Al Queda who are using this operation to gain money for themselves. Israel, by the way, was leading the way to trying to stop this trade in illegal diamonds for the purpose. None of this showed up in the movie.
In any case, who is really evil here? The diamond consumer? No. The RUF and the Muslim Terror groups who will do anything to gain money to fund their evil ways.

The Excitement of Reformation and Revival!

Are you a Christian? Then you need to read this!

This is the most exciting news I've read in a long time. God is doing something great around the world!

Who is the guy in the picture? Read the article and see.

MANKIND -STILL AS FALLEN AS EVER

I've seen two movies this week. That's a good week for me! One was about the ancient Mayans and the evil of their culture, and how they killed thousands of innocent people in false worship to false gods. Last night, I saw "Blood Diamonds" and saw brutality that made Apolocalypto look like Romper Room by comparison.
And this violence is from our day. In the picture is a girl growing up without an arm? Why? because in Sierra Leone, lots of people have their hands and arms chopped off by rebels. Even children.
Does human sacrifice go on, or are we as a species too "civilized" for that? Check out this story on the millions of girls killed in India, and you tell me. Man remains wicked. "Civilized" is just a word that means "Christianized cultural worldview." Where ever there is a Christianized worldview --even if the majority of the people in that culture aren't Christians-- people tend to restrain the evil in their hearts (though it still shows itself regularly). Wherever there isn't such a cultural worldview, the evil in the heart of man is expressed in appalling behavior.
Bottom line: the human heart is evil and capable of great wrong-doing today, just like in the Mayan days. WE are the same. Thoughts?

The New Face of The Episcopalian Church In America

Peter Akinola is a leader of the church worldwide. He is the "primate" in Nigeria for the Anglican Church. This makes him a very important man in Nigeria. However, he is now a very important man in America. Why? Because two of the largest Episcopalian parishes in Virginia have put themselves under the authority of Peter Akinola. Akinola has declared that the acceptance of gay marriage and gay bishops by the church in America is Satanic. He has formed the Convocation of Anglicans in North America. He consecrated an American, Martyn Minns, Rector of a large Virgina church, to be the bishop of this American expression of the world-wide Anglican movement.
What does all this mean? It means that if the West's Episcopalians are willing to sell out their Lord, God is not without options. He has raised up many more Anglicans (Episcopalians are Anglicans) in Africa than in England and America combined. God's church goes forward!

Make Iraq Safe For Christians!

Refugees! Christians are trying to get out of Iraq? Why? because in a nation where Muslim extremists are blowing people up, Christians are a prime target!
We need to get out a battle cry: Make Iraq Safe for Christians! The government leaders need to hear this cry over and over again.
Jesus can fix the hearts of the people who need to fix Iraq.
This picture? Some little kids in a Christian school in Iraq.
By the way, Northern Iraq, where the Kurds live, is relatively safe for Christians. Let's hear it for the Kurds. Pulling out of Iraq, by the way, would hurt the Kurds greatly, for they have been the voice of sanity in an insane nation for decades.

The Perfect Pastor

My Friend Scott sent me a profile of the perfect pastor. The guy in the picture probably is the right "look" for the perfect pastor. I wonder how I measure up? here's the profile:
A recent survey has compiled all the qualities that people expect from the perfect pastor:
Results of a computerized survey indicated that the perfect pastor preaches exactly 12 minutes.
He frequently condemns sin but never upsets anyone.
He works from 8 a.m. until midnight and is also a janitor.
He makes $60 a week, wears good clothes, buys good books, drives a good car, and gives about $80 a week to the poor.
He is 28 years of age, but he's been preaching for 30 years. He is wonderfully gentle and handsome.
He gives himself completely but never gets too close to anyone to avoid criticism.
He speaks boldly on social issues, but must never become politically involved.
He has a burning desire to work with teenagers, but he spends all his time with senior citizens.
He makes 15 daily calls to parish families, visits shut-ins and the hospitalized, spends all his time evangelizing the unchurched, and is always in his office when needed.

Apocalypto!

Okay, I saw this movie.
Thoughts:
1. It's not that bloody. It is less bloody than Saving Private Ryan, and Braveheart
2. There are a couple of scenes where you see human hearts in some one's hand. Kind of creepy, but not too bad.
3. Great movie, as a movie. Compelling characters, dramatic, unique story.
4. Drawback, there was some "native" nudity. Glimpses of people who don't wear much clothes, especially when the Mayans were slaying the people of the village --not senual at all, and not over done.
5. the men wear as much clothes as sumos. no more. if this offends, stay away.
6. Lots of great tats, jewelry, and designer scarring. I think it will be all the rage with the younger generation soon.
7. Only one cuss word. (I confess, I laughed when I heard it. It was kind of funny)
8. The picture of this guy running is pretty much what you see for the last half hour of the movie.
9. I'd give it 4.5 out of 5 stars.

Iran, Bill Clinton, and Negotiable Truth

Iran is questioning the Holocaust. Why not? Truth doesn't have to be true in this day and age. Has there ever been a more public prolific liar than Bill Clinton? Besides, the devil, I'd have to say no. Yet, no matter how many lies, people wanted to believe him. Why should a historical event be any different?Until modern man agrees that truth is greater than preference, why not question everything? Ahmadinijab is a racist. He hates Jews. He wants history changed. How can the Americans who believed Bill Clinton call him a liar?

The Giant Eastern Squirrel is Tamed

It was a dangerous job. But someone had to do it.

Cool Crackdowns!

First of all, I want to say that this dude is cool. "Police Ice" is on his chest, badge hanging next to it, the shades, stocking cap, and a radio. Does life get better? I say, no.
ICE stands for Immigration and Customs Enforcement. They raided many companies in 6 states this week, pulling illegal aliens from their jobs and punishing those who hired them.
Many people are angry. They say this isn't right. I have one question: Why is it okay to say of our law enforcement, like ICE, that they are not allowed to do their job?

Let's Just Give Up and Encourage Iran!

Here's my suggestion: Let's all get behind the president and win the war in Iraq? Crazy, I know, but guess what? We can do it. We only suffer from Liberal's disease. Liberals like to lose wars.

From the Ashes Comes a Phoenix

This is Mark Taylor. He was shot 13 times during the Columbine High School Massacre. Not only did he live, he has declared that he has forgiven the shooters.

He now reaches out to others who struggle with forgiveness and urges them to look to God for help.

And of course, he's written a book.

God's work on display. Thoughts?

A Message from the Devil (or God?)

Okay, the little nut-job who presides over Iran is at it again. This time he is warning us Americans that we must either submit to God or vanish from the earth. Here are his words:

"These oppressive countries are angry with us ... a nation that on the other side of the globe has risen up and proved the shallowness of their power. They are angry with our nation. But we tell them 'so be it and die from this anger'. Rest assured that if you do not respond to the divine call, you will die soon and vanish from the face of the earth.”

Of course, by these words he means that Allah is on his side and that we cannot stop him. Allah is displeased with America and will soon kill us all.

He's wrong of course.

But is he all that wrong? He has the wrong God, to be sure, for Allah is not God. However, the true God's message requires repentance also. It is a "fearful thing to fall into the hands of God." So, even though President Tom of Iran has no idea what he is talking about, there is a shadow of truth: America, turn to the true God, or there is no real safety for you.

Posluszny!!!

The dude has a funny name. But the dude will be the first linebacker taken in the NFL Draft! Here is him eating a QB for lunch.

First name is Paul.

He will win lots of hardware this winter! He is a finalist for the Butkus award, the Ronnie Lot Award, the Bednarik Award, and the Lombardi Award.

He might take them all.

Lion Pride

Men Like To Fight!

Fist fight? Not necessarily. However, warriors are archetypes in the male mind that speak of value and meaning. What am I talking about?

I want to matter by fighting against evil. I want the fight and I want victory. Men, in general, crave victory.

Sports captures the hearts of millions of men becuase they echo to his desire for victory. But sports don't matter, in the big picture. Where in society can a man fight for truth? Where in the world can a man feel like he is on a quest to defeat evil and do good?

Most men, I believe, never become what God made them to be, because they have no cause greater than themselves that inflames their passions. Men don't just want victory, they NEED a good fight for a good cause. If they don't have it, or don't pursue it, then they become idle, underachieving, and even destructive.

Samurai and Ninja. Warriors. What great symbols for Christian men. May we live up to such archtypes in our fighting for the souls of men!!

Entertained into Oblivian?

Let's see. The Russians are poisoning freedom loving people; The Iranians are trying to ruin Iraq, nuke Israel, and usher in the mythical 12th Imam through chaos; the Chinese are building up an arsenal of weapons never before seen on the earth to go with their army of 2.5 million, as they oppress their 100 million Christians, prop up the evil North Korean Dictator, and hope to take over Taiwan, potentially causing war with America; North Korea is starving it's population while their leader and his Don King hair-do claims to be a deity, and he has atomic bombs to boot; the muslim nations of the middle east want to kill all the Jews, and the Christians in their midst; Africa is a continent of nations in turmoil complete with darfur genocide, Muslims slaugther, burning, raping and enslaving of Christians, etc; and, I could go on, but looking to America we are killing over a million babies a year in the womb and outlawing God whereever we find him. . . .

And what is the American public doing? Entertaining ourselves to death. We don't have time for big problems because dancing with the stars will be on soon! Then there is Madden 2006, the latest news on Brittany Spears, Desparate Housewives, Lost, and American Idol.

Of course, there is stuff to buy. Cars and toys and all we can find.

There is a story in the Bible about a King of Babylon who is partying with his comrades while his city is under siege by the Medo-persians. Of course, ignoring the world's problems while hanging out at a drinking party led to his swift downfall. We might be next.

A Letter from Iran

So, Ahmadinijad (or however you spell it) has written a letter to the american people. Interesting. I have several things to comment on this:
1. A response from this American: "Get lost, you nasty little gutter snipe. You don't have the right to speak of morality to Americans since you are a killer of Americans and a hater of Jews. --beyond that, you are ugly and your mother dresses you funny"
2. This Man is looking for the Anti-Christ.
The silly little dictator began his letter with this blessing: O, Almighty God, bestow upon humanity the perfect human being promised to all by You, and make us among his followers.
Translation: send the last great Imam, the perfect man who will lead the world in Islamic domination. This guy is primed for an anti-christ, because there is no great Imam.
3. The power of the internet is on display.
Think about it. A leader of another country is able to address not only all he people of America personally, but all people in the world. The internet will be increasingly used to sway the masses.
4. He sounds like John Murtha and Hillary Clinton.
Notice when the evil toad speaks he sounds like Hillary Clinton. Anyone who would vote for Hillary for president is in great danger, for Hilly and the Little Iranian Devil have much in common.
5. This guy hates Jews.
Let's face it. This guy is a bug.

Happy Feet! Propaganda or Entertainment?

Both! This movie has great, I mean GREAT music. The animation? I've never seen its equal. The story? Good enough keep you going. Cute? Just look at that little fuzzy guy! What do you think?
Propaganda? No question about it. I saw a review on the news attacking the "mad-dog" right for seeing propaganda in this innocent little musical, but I wonder if he works Pravda, because anyone who says this movie doesn't have an agenda is either uneducated or dishonest. This little penguin is born different. He dances when all the other penguins sing. You'd think those two activities would go together. Not so! He finds himself ostracized. Who leads the movement against him? Well, the elders of the penguins, of course. These guys are old and slump-shouldered and lead the other penguins in worship to the great penguin who gives fish to the penguins that please him. These elders talk in American old-timey Christian language.
Christian archetypes as the bad guys? yep. Nothing new there, huh?
So, these elders become convinced that little Happy Feet is angering the Penguin god by dancing and that's why they don't have enough fish. The story goes on from there. Along the way, Happy Feet learns that it is okay to be himself and all that. He also meets some cool mexican penguins from a different penguin nation. They are all latino penguins and, predictably, the love dancing. No stereo-typing there, right?
Happy Feet also falls in love and wins the girl --or the penguin. Whatever.
The story ends, though, with Happy Feet defeating the religious superstitions of the elder Penguins by discovering man, winning man's heart, and bringing man home with him so that man could see that it is his fishing habit that is killing the penguins.
Man, once he sees the problem, takes the issue up in his legislature and wins the day. Then, he takes the matter to the UN who, presumably, ends fishing in the feeding grounds of the penguins and all live hapily ever after.
The movie ends with the U.N. controlling fishing to save the penguins. No, no political agenda in this movie. Those right wing mad-dogs! They're so paranoid.
Thoughts?

Why This Dead Man Matters

Alexandare Litveneko. Who is this man? He is a man who was investigating the suspicious death of a reporter who opposed Vladimir Putin. Now he is dead, and his death is more suspicious. He died quickly, and the British doctors who attend him don't know exactly why his immune system suddenly shut down, his heart stopped working, and his respiratory system failed. All they know is that he got sick in Russia.
He was killed. Vladimir Putin is an evil man.
Vladimir Putin is selling arms to Iran.
American politicians are fighting against our aggression in the middle east, thinking that pulling back is a good idea. Oh what fools our politicians are. Right in front of our face, our enemies are lining up and buying guns. And we are voting on American Idol and asking, "Are we still in Iraq? What a shame."
That is why Alexandare matters. Why is Vladimir Putin offing his own citizens? Nancy Pelosi, I know you are more worried about getting Hillary into the White House, but how about asking some more important questions than "Why are we in Iraq?" A better question would be, "Why aren't we in Tehran?"

Check Hell's Weather! It might be getting cold there!

Rutgers is 9-0. I won't bother explaining this to people who don't love college football, for it would take too long. But for the rest of you, how shocked are you?
This tells me one thing: Joe Paterno needs to resign with grace. With Rutgers, we are seeing what a young coach, with second level recruits, is able to pull off. Penn State needs a younger man.
Age-ism on my part? Yes. I admit it.
Good for Rutgers, good for New Jersey, and cudos to Bruce Cooper.

There's No Crying In Politics

Is it the end ofthe world because the democrats control congress again? No! The same God who ruled the universe yesterday, still rules today. He has a plan to bring the gospel to the world and if having these yo-yo's --excuse me, I mean, "people"-- in power is needed for the gospel's sake, than God will work it out for His glory.
In any case, the biggest shame is that Rick Santorum will not be representing Pennsylvania any longer. It was so nice to have a senator I could be proud of after living all those years in New Jersey. I've met Senator Santorum, talked with him, and listened to him. He is a good man, the kind that it is hard to find in Washington.
However, we are called to pray for our leaders, for God ministers justice through them, and so we need them to do a good job, no matter who they are. Please pray for our troops and for success in their endeavors.

You probably don't know this man, but I do. His name is Roy Medley. He is a very nice man. He is the head of the American Baptist USA denomination. He also, like most of the leadership of ABCUSA is predictably wishy-washy on most all issues, political and theological, and when the wind blows, he leans left. Consequently, he leads his denomination on silence regarding abortion and loudness regarding women pastors. Likewise, his denomination is against the death penalty. Let's see if he has the courage to make a bold statement, maybe even a pastoral letter, telling the world how important it is that we do not execute Saddam Hussein. My guess? You won't hear a peep. *by the way, until I came to my present job, I pastored and ABCUSA church and have met with Dr Medley on several occassions.

Ted Haggard goes down. This very influential, high profile Christian leader has stepped down from two very prestigious positions. One, his church of a million people --okay not a million, but in the many thousands. Two, his leadership of a prominant evangelical association.

What went wrong? Simple: sin is always crouching at the door, seeking whom it may devour. All of us are subject to one sin or another.

What went right? Church discipline is on display. Unlike that messy Swaggart thing several years ago, Haggard lived within systems of accountability that worked. The elder team of his chruch as well as the accountability board he submitted to protected the church from further scandal than necessary.

What might go well beyond this? The homosexual political machine was no doubt looking forward to playing this card. Perhaps they will now see a LACK of hatred and vitriol back at them. Christians are not vindictive people. To show Jesus, often you need to be struck. Ted left himself open, by his sins. Those who wanted to see him fall took advantage of that in a very public way. This is a chance to show grace to both Ted and his accusers.

That's all for now.

Katrina in Mississippi

Here's my buddy Ron. We were in Mississippi helping a good Christian lady fix up her no-longer-flooded house. Look at the sign she had outside her house. Now that's aggressive evangelism!

Time To Go Again

Well, I received one comment on my first blog (thanks, Scott!) so I am now encouraged to write a second one. Although, I just received a story emailed to me from my brother in Christ Darin. Read this over. Have you heard of this happening? Can anyone tell me where we can find out more? Article below:

Church Calls for Action over Gruesome Violence toward Christians in IraqSoaring violence against Christians in Iraq - including the alleged crucifixion of a teenage boy in Basra - has prompted the Catholic Church to call for a safe haven to protect minority groups as the country slides toward civil war, according to the website This is London. The American Catholic bishops have also asked US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice to grant asylum to hundreds of thousands of Iraqi Christians who have fled their homes to escape persecution. They told her that they were deeply alarmed by the "rapidly deteriorating situation of Christians and other religious minorities in Iraq". John Pontifex of the British branch of Aid to the Church in Need, a charity set up to help persecuted Christians, said he was aware of reports of the crucifixion of a Christian boy in Basra in October, but had not details. He said he also agreed with the US bishops' assessment of the situation in Iraq. "What we are now witnessing in Iraq is a vicious attempt to wipe Christianity from the face of a country," he said yesterday. "Beheadings, killings, arrests and torture, it is the stuff of nightmares, an era every bit as cruel as the persecution of Christians in Roman times."

He Said That?

So, the guy who said THIS is the governor of our state. Hmmm.
"These are people who lead very gray lives... They don't have much social interaction... But if you put them on the bus, they're excited. They're happy. They have fun. They see the bright lights. They hear music. They pull that slot machine, andwith each pull they think they have a chance to win. It's unbelievable what brightness and cheer it brings to older Pennsylvanians. Unbelievable." -- Gov. Ed Rendell talking to the Lancaster New Era about slots and older Pennsylvanians
Does Granny need some brightness and cheer in her dull, gray, lonely, existance? Put her on the bus and let her pull the slots!
Seriously, Governor, do you just look down on old people, or were you born without an IQ? I'm trying to figure out which.
Oh, and why did he say we need slots in PA? So the money could support senior citizens? Why not just let them keep it?
Next time you want to give Granny some cheer, Gov, tell a joke.
