1. The Bible is not Osteen's standard--his feelings and his own mind are ("In my mind," and "it seems to me").

2. He admits that he has not studied the issue, but he would still consider voting for him. The "little details" are not important to him. Unfortunately, some of the "little details" are about who God is, and who Jesus Christ is.

Why do people even listen to this man? Never mind, I know--people (even Christians) do not know their Bibles. And they have itching ears. Sigh.

Ooh, great start. Mindy caught the "in my mind" comment and points out it is not the best way to determine truth! The Bible says, "there is a way that seems right to a man but it ends in death."

She also is troubled by the "little details" that are not considered.

But, worry not, quiz-kids! there is more. You may have an insight not yet mentioned.

BTW, to answer that last question Mindy, I think that often Christians don't hear all of what Joel has to say. They tune in for ten minutes here or there and say, "Well, that makes sense." And much of what Joel says does make sense and much is even right. But what we as Christians must do is be concerned about "the little details" of what Joel has to teach (or of what I am teaching or any teacher is teaching).

We have one authority, the Bible, inspired by the Holy Spirit, illumined to us by that same Spirit.

As a new Christian starving for information, I would often listen to speakers that were out in the public or seemed popular. I must admit until I dug into the bible and understood what I was reading as well as hearing you Pastor Mike, I did not understand why they were criticised. Then I realized that they were pushing their own ideas and agendas and wanting good reviews and sales on their books. Some things they say do make sense, but after digging in to God's word, I am beginning to understand some flaws. I thank God and you for bringing truth and opening my eyes.- Mandy

Mandy,
thanks for your kind words! I am encouraged to hear it. Why? because we need to keep our minds turned on and firing! We live in a society that conditions us to be passive receivers of information instead of active thinkers. But God says that our transformation is through the "renewing of your minds." (romans 12:2)

well done.
