I intended to give my thoughts here, but I have changed my mind. I want to hear yours first.
Anna Nicole Smith is dead. Yes, the one who married the old guy and then got his money, then it was taken away, then it went to court again . . . the one who did the playboy thing . . . the one who did the model thing . . . the one who has the baby whom three men claim to be the father of . . . the one who you didn't think much about until she died, and now it's wall-to-wall Anna.
What are your thoughts on this whole Anna thing, death, media hype, all that?

I'm not awestruck by Hollywood types, but they do play a big role in a lot of people's lives. Never understood that.
It's sad that America probably lost around 6,000 citizens that day to various diseases, injuries, accidents, etc, but this one person attracts all the hype because of her celebrity. Would she get the same attention if she lived a life without all the sex, drugs, and money? Nope. It's like the bad-girl Britney and Lindsey actions. Any publicity is good publicity. But it doesn't help me raise my teenage daughters any easier.
(I think the number of potential fathers is up to 5 now.)
I'm thinking I'd rather hear on John Mellencamp's newest spin on war... Anna never impressed me.
SAD STATE
1st - that any person could have so much potential, and yet such conflict, such a waste of life!
2nd - that she died a worthless death at her young age (but, is it worthless?)
next - that she could not get control of herself, with all the money and resources a "person" can muster available to her - she still could not win
- and the time america continues to waste on this issue, when it seems so clear what happened and why it ended as it did.
- that news editors would even think of dedicating the coverage to this in the manner it has, speaks to the state of their profession (sad state)
- that we the people, would given this subject -(sad state of life, lies, and obsessions) so much time speaks to "our" sad state.
I think that this is microcosm of the sad state our world has come to, with sinner chasing the obsession of the sinner.
So, was her death for not? Or can there yet be value if someone learns that there is still time to pull "their" plug before they too go the same path.
Then, the sad state, is really only what; we - the people, let it be to each of ourselves.
That's what I think,
Big Fred
I think it is so sad. It is heartbreaking. I think she tried to live up to what the world told her she was worth. Which wasn't much. It seems she kept looking for what she was worth here and there..from money to her looks, in all the wrong places, just hoping to find a glimmer of someone or something that said 'you have value' and 'you have worth'. But she couldn't find it in the world. The emptiness, the void--can not be filled by anything other than Jesus. I haven't followed the story and I don't even have a clue what she died from. But I know that any of the young girls or women today have the 'potential' to have their life end like this and all we have to do is ......nothing.
Interesting.
My gut reaction, after the first one or two news reports was, "Okay, that's all I need to know. thanks."
And yet, we all knew a media storm was brewing. Why? I really don't get it. I'm so bored by the story.
As for the woman, she matters to God,obviously. All do. It is sad that she died.
How she lived is also sad, but she is not a victim. She continually chose behavior that hurt people --part of the example is that 5 people think they fathered her baby. That's strange.
Money is a huge issue here. Lots of girls die who sleep with lots of guys. The reverse is true also. But that is not so fascinating to us. Rich people, famous people, they are the ones who draw our attention.
rich and famous are the shallowest of glosses on the surface of humanity. People must worship. We will worship. We were made to worship. We want to magnify, make important, someone. When that object is God, the true God, then life falls into a proper perspective. When that object is no one, we become nihilistic, cynical, negative, hopeless. When that object is another human being, as is most often the case these days, we become shallow.
Why? because human beings cannot bear the weight of being worshiped. They are not good enough. we are all in the same soup. our value is the same. we are humans, and that means value because we are made in the image of God. we are humans, and that means morally unworthy because we are sinners. We are humans, no less no more.
humans rise highest when they exalt themselves least and exalt God most.
Anna Nicole, Rest in Peace. this earth is a rough place and none of us get out alive.
I think, oddly enough, this story (in general) has some ties to our grandstanding political leaders. (both sides of the isle).
I think the news and politicians have discovered if we are distacted by "issues" that really aren't important to us, but are dramatic, we won't pay attemtion to what is really going on.
Smith's death is no more or less tragic than the thousands of others who died that day.
In Philadelphia, news covered the death of the race horse Barbaro as the lead story the night and day after it happened. There were memorials erected, etc.
Yet that same day I am sure a number of US Soldiers died nobly in Iraq. We never heard their names or their stories.
Its a bit sad, really.
GW: Barbaro? man, there's another great question. contrast the coverage of barbaro with that of Smith.
One is a horse, one is a human. what did that horse do to make it special? won a race? that makes it a national horse? was the horse more important than the girl?
yes, in the political arena, there is huge cover when stories like this come up. no wonder elitism sprouts up in Washington. At times, we really are the ignorant, unwashed masses.
robo: there are two women, aren't there. There is Anna Nicole, whoever she truly is; and there is the perceived famuos person who goes by the same name.
I have a feeling, your kids will do okay because you actually stop to think about the effect pop-tart-culture will have on them. Think of the millions of kids whose parents aren't paying enough attention . . .
Andy, I kind of know how you feel. I am just not that interested by the story.
indeed, what interests me now is not the story, but the largeness of the story. it goes on and on and on and on.
BF: yes, sadness. she lived a life of self-indulgence but was clearly not satisfied. it is so easy to just look down on her for her shallow ways, but to do so is to risk losing our own humanity. She was someone's little girl once. . . .
margie, ana's claim to fame was beauty and it's power over men. That's it. men made her famous. not talent, not hard work. she went from stripper, to rich old guy's wife, to playboy centerfold, to model (actress, whatever).
What do they all have in common? they are leveraging her looks in the eyes of men (mostly).
no editorial here. just an observation.
I think that lawyer guy did her in...
