Good friend of this blog, Grey Wizard, implies that some of the problem we have with Russia is due to Bush's being too nice to Putin. I admit that I agree, as far as I can see. However, it's not like he doesn't disagree at all as the headlines below attest:
Bush, Putin At Odds Over Middle EastBush criticizes Putin on democracy's slide
Bush, Putin butt heads over democracy
But I agree that is not enough. I don't pretend to be an expert in diplomacy and for all I know, behind the scenes, things are being handled as best they can be. I do know that Putin helping Iran is a crime.
The point I will not give in to GW (Grey Wizard, not George W) is that the press is off the hook on this one. They vote 85% liberal and seem quite biased regarding the news. Anything that might help W, they try to avoid, anything that puts him in a bad light, they try to emphasize. The press makes noise according to their left-wing bias. They want Iraq to fail because Bush's legacy is attached. They criticize Bush for freeing Iraq, de-emphasizing stories of the thousands found in mass graves, while criticizing Bush for not getting our military into the Darfur.
Reality: It doesn't matter what Bush does, the press in America is 85% against him and prove that regularly.
Reality: The press in America, regardless of Bush, have an agenda.
Truth: Their agenda is obvious and at times it absolutely sickens me.
post script: I'm all for doing something about Darfur. OF course, if Bush does it, he'll get slammed. better to wait for a democrat president. The nation will be able to unify behind that person because the press won't try to sabotage their war efforts. Evidence: the relentless bombing in Bosnia by Clinton. I heard not a peep of criticism from the NY Times.
I have to agree with GW on another thing. It is hard to imply that Pelosi has done something to help the Russians. She's only been on active duty in the majority for a week or so.

I did not mean to imply that Bush CAUSED the Russian problem. Certainly he did not. I have just been disappointed in the Administration's unwillingness to act. Words are nifty, but diplomacy and economic pressure need to be applied.
As for the press, I agree they stink. But what you see as a liberal bias I see as a general sell out to what gets ratings.
If tomorrow, it was more popular to say how Bush is doing a great job, they would be all over it. Television news, espcially, is pathetic.
From my perspective, the press is too lenient on our government. Instead of putting the unedited truth out, they feel obligated to represent "both sides", or be politically correct.
Beleive me, it angers liberals and conservatives alike.
And as an aside, if my comments seemed unfriendly, please don't take that that way. I appreciate any American who invests enough time to have an opinion and speak it.
I know that this is just a play on words, but " Bush Putin Butt Heads over democracy" made me laugh out loud!
funny, but once again, I agree with most of what you said here. The rest doesn't matter that much.
no, you haven't appeared unfriendly in the least. Quite the contrary.
Nancy, that is great!!! I didn't catch that. Bush, Putin, Butt heads! that's pretty good.
