Did Someone Mention God?

Both the coach and the GM (or was it the owner?) of the Colts gave the glory to God for victory in the football game. This is the most ignored statement in sports journalism. Two very capable men, a the pinacle of success say, "All glory for this victory goes to God." Why isn't there a follow up question?

Just once, I want to hear an interviewer answer back, "Fascinating. You are saying that God had something to do with the win? Explain."

Or even, "Do you think God liked your team better than the other team?" Anything! Just a response of any kind.

I'd be a lot better giving praise to God without a response than having to answer the last question. It puts me in the mindset of two parents talking after Jimmy beat Timmy's socks off in a soccer game. "Well, God obviously likes Jimmy more...God's probably trying to tell Timmy he shouldn't play." But then again, these days everyone gets a trophy.

No, I don't agree. I think it's okay to answer that question and to ask it.

What's wrong with hard questions? These guys just said that God gets the glory for their win. Ask them why! That's fair. It shows them respect to discuss it. Why ignore it?

The question isn't that hard anyway. Here's how I'd answer it: All glory goes to God for all things. We love being champs, but this glory fades quickly and I find that at a time like this, it is a teachable moment for many. As a soceity,we don't want to get out of whack, thinking that a championship is of any lasting importance. No, it is a gift from God. And, had we lost, that doesn't mean God doesn't like us. There are lessons to be learned even when things don't go your way. God gets the glory from that too."

The point is, the statement is completely ignored.
