OKAY YOU ROCK AND ROLLERS AND MUSIC LOVERS, here is one album I am just loving. I admit, I bought it because of nostalgia --I was a high school Styx fan. I didn't really expect the album to be any good.
But it is great. Styx does covers of other people Rock tunes, many of which you'd know (like, "I am the Walrus" by the Beatles, "I can see for Miles" by the Who), but most of the tunes are the ones that you'd say, "Oh yeah, I've heard that song before, but I don't really know it that well, (like Traffic's, "Can't Find My Way Home," and the Alman Bro's "One Way Out"). And some of the songs are ones most of us can't remember who did them or if we've heard them before or not (like "It don't Make Sense" and "locomotive breath").
But whether you know the songs or not, all of them are great. Why? Because Styx is not a cover band. They are talented musicians, veterans of all the Rock world offers, and they know what they are doing musically and from a production standpoint.
They do "I am the Walrus" better than the Beatles, no kidding. None of these songs are second rate throw-away covers. Each one is as good or better than original. Many I listen to and say, "yeah, that's better."
So, if you are a dinosaur rock fan, like me, or just like good music, pick it up. It wasn't that popular so you will find it cheap.

Your blog entry piqued my interest in Styx, so I went to iTunes and looked them up. I knew they did songs like Renegade and Mr. Roboto. I forgot they did Come Sail Away and Babe. I guess I will have to add some Styx tunes to my library. I will check out this album also.
their best stuff is older. Grand Illusion, Crystal Ball, etc
